College Football Recap

College football did what it does best this weekend: the opposite of what most expected. Iowa came out swinging and killed the formerly unbeaten Maryland by over 5 scores winning 51-14. BYU continued to impress beating Utah 34-20. Penn State won 24-0 against Indiana remaining unbeaten. Oklahoma beat Kansas State 37-31 in another unimpressive victory (personally I hope they get exposed as the fakes they are Saturday in the Red River showdown, hook 'em). Stanford continued to shake things up by beating number 3 Oregon 31-24. Continuing to raise questions about who will join Alabama and Georgia in the playoffs.

Speaking of the those two playoff locks, they showed just how far ahead they are in the SEC and in the playoff race in general. Georgia shut out Arkansas in what was supposed to be a great top 10 match up. Sam Pittman has definitely improved Arkansas but Georgia showed just how far they still have to go. The Dawgs won 37-0 and showed just how good their defense really is, again. Everyone thought it would be a good close game, but this one looked over from the beginning. Arkansas had no answer for Georgia's front 7 and their defense allowed Georgia to run all over the field. Arkansas got knocked down, hard. Ole Miss did only slightly better against Alabama. At least they scored. However, they did not put up much of a fight losing 42-21 in Tuscaloosa. Lane Kiffin continued Saban's streak against assistants and looked bad doing it. Alabama running back, Brian Robinson, scored four touchdowns in the contest and showed how easily Bama can lock up the West. After Florida lost to Kentucky (seriously Florida?!) solidifying Georgia winning the East (unless Kentucky has some magic up their sleeve on October 16th) and Bama locking up the West, the only real race is who will get the one and two seed in the playoffs.

Cincy added a huge win to their playoff resume beating Notre Dame 24-13. Ohio State won big against Rutgers. Michigan had another impressive showing against Wisconsin winning 38-17. How long can Harbaugh keep this up? Is Michigan for real or are they saving their first L for Ohio State? Your guess is as good as mine but for now Michigan looks good. I am sure we will learn the truth soon enough. Texas A&M lost again, this time to an even less impressive team, Miss State. This is definitely not the year for the Aggies.

Coastal Carolina won big 59-6. Michigan State won against Western Kentucky. Fresno States previously ranked in the top 25 can kiss that goodbye losing to Hawaii 27-24. Oklahoma State beat Baylor by 10 to keep the Big 12 interesting. UCLA wanted to make the PAC 10 an even bigger dumpster fire losing to Arizona State 42-23. Auburn ended their Baton Rouge curse beating LSU 24-19. Just in time to face Georgia at home next week. Good luck, Bo. You're gonna need it. The ACC continued to be unimpressive and average with NC State barely beating LA Tech, Wake Forest barely beating Louisville, and Clemson barely beating Boston College. Average wins against average teams by average teams. The ACC needs basketball back. Now. Let's see what surprises week 6 holds.
