College Football Week 7 Recap

Week 7 looked how most people expected it to minus a few surprises (cough cough Iowa). Georgia stayed perfect against Kentucky. Their defense did allow for two touchdowns but not without a lot of fight from the Wildcats. The Dawgs also blocked an extra point and a field goal late making sure none of their opponents have scored more than 13 points on their stout defense. 4th win against a top 20 ranked opponent headed into a bye.

Purdue shocked everyone by beating number two Iowa and not only did they beat Iowa, they also did so soundly winning 24-7. Cincinnati won big against the former Group of 5 sweetheart, UCF. Cincy won 56-21. Caleb Williams looks to have solved a lot of OU's problems and helped them beat TCU 52-31scoring 5 touchdowns for the Sooners. Rattler who?

Alabama did what everyone thought they would after an embarrassing loss. They won big. They beat Mississippi State 49-9. Michigan State stayed unbeaten but barely winning by 5 against a 2-4 Indiana. They will have to play a lot better against other conference rivals if they're going to win the Big 10.Oklahoma State also stayed unbeaten against 25th ranked Texas. Texas blew another lead to fall to the Pokes in embarrassing fashion. The Longhorns will need to improve greatly if they want to survive their conference move.

The most talked about game of the weekend happened in Neyland on Saturday night. The Vols played a close game against Ole Miss and lost. The losing wasn't all that surprising (at least not to me but I am what you would call a Vol hater) but what was surprising was the refs blowing multiple calls and the boil over that led to trash being thrown on the field by Tennessee fans. The forced fumble that was never blown dead yet didn't count for a touchdown? It has still yet to be explained by the SEC and in a 31-26 final score could have been a huge difference. You know what else makes a difference? Your back up quarterback inexplicably running out of bounds rather than throwing up a prayer in the end zone in the final seconds when you're only down by 5. I can't imagine watching the game as a Vols fan (mostly cause I can't imagine being one) but after some bad unexplained calls plus the amount of injuries that plagued Ole Miss players all night it was a tough loss. Reacting by throwing trash though doesn't make those things go away. It just makes people not feel bad for you. Also, the fan that threw the golf ball at Kiffin, Vols should've recruited him instead of Milton cause he would've at least thrown something into the end zone. And now the Vols get to follow up Trashgate 2021 in Tuscaloosa losing to Saban. Like I said I can't imagine being a Vol fan.

Auburn surprised some by playing a very strong game against Arkansas. Everyone believed Arkansas was back. Apparently thought just because they own the state of Texas, it does not mean they own the SEC. Unranked Utah beat Arizona State 35-21. Baylor did what I thought they would and beat 19th ranked BYU 38-24. In one of the highest scoring games of the day, LSU and Florida went head to head in Death Valley and the Tigers handed Florida their 3rd loss of the year locking up the East for Georgia. Gators have the Dawgs in 2 weeks and will likely have 4 losses headed into November.

Texas A&M beat Missouri 35-14 after scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter alone. NC State remains the only decent team in the ACC and took care of business. The Wolfpack beat Boston College 33-7. No NC State fans that does not mean you can say you're now a football school. Oregon beat California although it was a closer game than it should probably should have been. San Diego State stayed unbeaten against San Jose. Who knows what week 8 will bring but I can't wait to find out.
