College Football Week 9 Preview

This week has a lot of match ups that have big ramifications for what is to come in January. Coastal Carolina will play Troy. Coastal Carolina is coming off their first loss of the season and will have to win big to stay relevant. Cincinnati plays Tulane to stay undefeated. Tulane is 1-6 but gave Oklahoma a scare in week 1 and will hope to do the same again the Bear Cats. They will need a miracle to end Cincy's playoff dreams. College game day will be showing up for the only top 10 match up of the week, Michigan versus Michigan State. One of whom will get their first loss this weekend. Harbaugh doesn't have a good record on the road in top 10 match ups and will need to start making up for it against the Spartans. Whoever wins will have a big leg up in winning the Big 10.

One loss Iowa is facing Wisconsin after the Badgers got a big win last week at Purdue. Wisconsin finally showed some life on offense and will have to do the same against the Hawkeyes. Texas is facing Baylor in Waco. The Bears will need to find a way to contain Bijan Robinson to win this one. One loss Baylor needs this conference win to stay in the hunt for the Big 12. Pittsburgh faces Miami and should do so easily if Kenny Pickett can continue to put up Heisman quality numbers. Iowa State is coming off a huge win against formerly undefeated Oklahoma State and will play West Virginia. Cyclones should keep rolling.

Number 1 Georgia faces Florida in Jacksonville on Saturday. Georgia's defense should have no problem handling Florida's offense and no matter which Georgia quarterback plays Saturday, I don't see Florida pulling off this miracle. Oklahoma faces Texas Tech at home. Texas Tech may not be in the race for the Big 12 but as inconsistent as Oklahoma has been, maybe OU will have their first loss. A girl can dream. Oregon will play Colorado at home and is favored by 24. The Ducks should get an easy win but covering is a pretty big ask.

Undefeated Wake Forest should stay that way against Duke this weekend. Hartman put up huge numbers last week and will likely do the same against the Blue Devils. Ole Miss and Auburn face off in a top 20 match up. The game is in Auburn and both teams need a win to keep their West hopes alive. Kentucky looks to bounce back against Mississippi State. Kentucky is only a 1 point favorite and I don't know how they don't cover even if they are playing in Starkville. Oklahoma State is also bouncing back this week against Kansas who gave Oklahoma a run for their money last weekend. The Pokes are 30 point favorites over the Jayhawks which seems like a lot considering how well Kansas played last week.

SMU is undefeated but is the underdog as they face Houston this weekend. The Cougars are playing at home and only have one loss and are favored to win by 1. Penn State is headed to Columbus to try and beat Ohio State after losing in 9 overtimes to Illinois last weekend. It should be a good game to help firm up the Big 10. Notre Dame is facing an average UNC team only favored by 3 and a half. Seems like a good bet to me but maybe that's my Tar Heel hatred coming out. BYU is favored by 2.5 to beat Virginia at home. That will probably be just as close as the line suggests. San Diego State is still undefeated and looks to keep it that way against a good Fresno State team. It should be a close one. Only a few more weeks to see who will end up in the playoffs, let's get to work.
